Winner of the 2017 National Pizza Awards Announced

roxOnce again, we are delighted to have sponsored the National Pizza Awards, now in its second year, and can announce the deserved winner as Nicola Rexha of Pappa Romo Restaurant in South Kensington, London.

After competing against a host of talented fellow competitors at The Islington Metalworks, London, Nicola’s pizza creation ‘Pizza Di Bosco’ – which means ‘From the Woods’, scooped first place along with £1,000 in prize money.

Entrants were challenged to produce a Signature Pizza of their own creation, as well as an additional pizza made from a specific selection of supplied ingredients, one of those ingredients being Pan’Artisan’s 5% sourdough dough ball.

The winning pizza garnered much praise from the judges, who were impressed with its high quality, seasonality and perfectly balanced flavours.

Nicola Rexha;

We usually cook by the season in the restaurant and we’re in mushroom season, so for Di Bosco we used wild mushrooms, truffle, stracciatella and 24-month aged Parma ham. All of the toppings are top quality and chosen in the right season and weather, so that’s the inspiration behind it. And I just really love truffle.

It feels fantastic. It’s our first competition, so to win is the best. It’s very good for the restaurant and for me as a chef. Wherever you go, you can say that you won a big prize in a big competition and that’s great. I have to work tomorrow, but I am definitely going to celebrate!

Excellent sour dough, the flavour was very good and well received compared to our other pizza bases. The brioche dough balls made excellent burger buns. These dough balls (sourdough and brioche) are far better than any other product used.
